Coastal Beats Wedding Song Request Tips

The way it generally works is that you'll make a bunch of song requests leading up to the big day and then we'll track them all down and have them ready to go.

Some couples are very specific about what songs they'd like played at various times throughout the event and others are happy to let their DJ take charge of things for the most part.  It's really up to you how much control you'd like to have over the music.

If you don't feel the need to make lots of song selections, we'll use the songs and styles that you do suggest as a guide and track down similar music that we think you'll love.  But on the other end of the scale, if you'd like a very specific schedule of music throughout the day, we can do that too!

We generally recommend about 80 songs as a good amount - although you can select more or less if you'd like.

There are a few ways to do this but the best way is by creating playlists in Spotify for us to reference. This means we know you’ve personally listened to the song and ensures we’re getting the correct track that you like rather than an alternate version or remix.

If possible please provide four Spotify playlists that fit into our existing format and track count:

*Special Songs - this is as many as you need including processional, signing, grand entrance, bridal waltz etc.

Then make a "Cocktails/Canapés/Dinner" playlist followed by two playlists of party/dance floor tunes - "Must Play" & "Play If Possible":

*Cocktails/Canapés/Dinner (25 songs)
*Must Play (15 songs)
*Play If Possible (35 songs)

(75 songs - 4 to 5 hours of music)

Once you've filled these up you'll end up with a pretty good amount of songs. Its a great idea to give your DJ some wiggle room as we've got a pretty good idea of what works on a dance floor and sometimes having to force in too many requests has the potential to stifle things a bit... That being said, some couples come up with really fantastic playlists for the entire night and this can also be great!

Based on the song selections and vibe thats established, we'll then mix it all together creatively, make the musical side of things flow smoothly and hopefully end the night with a packed dance floor!

(Please Note: we sometimes get huge lists of songs that cover way more hours than we’ll have the opportunity to actually play on the night - we once got a list with 3 days worth of music for a 3 hour gig!! We definitely prefer to come prepared with all the songs that have been requested but If the list is substantially longer than the time we’re booked for we can’t guarantee we’ll have all of the songs with us. It’s very time consuming to track down and organise songs so if there are way more songs than are needed in a list we’ll make our own selection from the list that covers the booking duration. Thanks for understanding!)

Email the Spotify playlist links to us once completed and we’ll add them to your account.

Go to Spotify
1. Control (or right click) your playlist in Spotify
2. Scroll to the bottom of the drop down menu
3. Select "Share > Copy Link To Playlist"
4. Paste the link into an email.

If you'd prefer not to use Spotify, you can log in to your account and enter the songs manually. Search songs with the "Artist", "Song" & "Add Your Own" tabs above and add them manually. Also, be sure to check out the "Top Hits" tab for inspiration!

And of course we’re always more than happy to take requests from you & your guests on the night!

If we have the song with us & it’ll keep the dance floor going, it'll likely get played.

We do try to avoid jumping between tempos (slow/fast songs) too much as this can quickly clear the dance floor so we’ll often fit in a request at the perfect time a little later in the set.

People usually want to hear their requests straight away so if a guest mentions that their recently requested song isn't already playing, let them know it’s for good reason & it will most likely get played when the time is right!
