Donny Shades

Growing up in the small town of Molong, Donny spent her time learning guitar and singing along to every single one of her mum’s records. The gigs started rolling in when she turned 15 and she has never looked back.  Soon realising that Molong wasn’t the right place for her musical career she moved to The Northern Rivers.  She’s been playing pubs, clubs, weddings and corporate functions since 2010 and loves it every time! 

Through her original music she writes about personal experiences and other things that matter in an amalgamation of folk, blues, jazz, roots and rock styles. She loves pulling influences from artists like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Brittany Howard (Alabama Shakes), and Australian artists like Claire Anne Taylor and Angie McMahon. 

When entertaining at weddings and events she has a huge repertoire of covers.  She plays lots of different music from across the decades and has a powerful voice that can cover a wide range of artists. Her fiery performance style brings an edge to an otherwise sweet sound!
